Elle Decoration, January 2011. This month I've photographed for them BoConcept porcelain beakers. I've decided to cut out pattern out of colour paper as bold, graphic pattern on the mugs reminded me so much of polish paper cut out called "wycinanka" . Beside that three out of six were actually designed by Polish designers.

Tim is 57 and has Parkinson’s Disease. He began his project "Over the Hill" over 3 years ago. Since then over 80 photographers have photographed him during the course of his illness. He contacted me in 2009 and our collaboration began.

I have decided to tell a story about Tim through his personal objects; a collection of what seem to be ordinary everyday things. But over the course of time every object has become a souvenir, a trace of the past whose meaning on the personal level is much wider than we think and go far beyond object itself.

Recently published in Cyprus another project with Aliki. We went to an abundant village in mountains to shoot it. Climbed windows with props, lost car keys in the middle of nowhere and all sorts of other adventures.

Last year I was running around London Taxidermists looking for birds nests in order to photograph them for one of the chapters of the Ikea Billy Book, which was published in Germany.

we only see the shadows of the real world

I photograph light streaming through my window. Traces of movement. Quickly fading shadows on the walls. Impermanent presence of outside world in my house. Fleeting glimpses, invisible details in my house illuminated by the light. We habitually overlook so many things. So many details go unnoticed.

My work I would say is calm and reflective. I deliberately choose to photograph quiet, calm and meditative moments of life. I trace the small narratives in between events, I look for passage of time, capturing barely visible or ephemeral.

old sketchbook project... to see weather as if I wasn't there. I'm fascinated by the transient, unnoticeable, small changes. Everything is in constant motion. I always intend to do more of those animated stills viewpoints but it is very time consuming and difficult to do while living in London. This was done in Szafarnia. We were sitting with Aga sipping tea wrapped up in sweaters. It was beginning of March in Poland, not exactly a picnic weather.

Barthes said that certain element of posing is inevitable. It is true but I'm always looking for something authentic in portrait, for people to give away something about themselves. Portrait is all about the tension between hiding and reviling. Diane Arbus use to, as she called it "befriend" persons whom she wanted to photograph, to win their trust and thus to be allowed to photograph them.

I tried to photograph my Grand Mother every time I visit but she would always present herself to camera in a way she wanted to be seen, she would strike a pose and anything authentic about her would be lost. This is the portrait of her from the day of my Grand Father's funeral. It is really sad but ironically it is the first picture of her that I really like. I have her trust and permission to photograph her and even though she is still very aware of self representation and she has participated in the picture taking process she gave away emotions and authenticity that all the previous pictures were missing.

I collect paths. For a while now. Recently I went to Tate Modern to see Roni Horn exhibition and in one of the books she speaks about paths- very beautifully. Its always amazing to find someone that pay attention to the same "ordinary" things and think of them in very poetic way.

"Path, drive it, walk it, take it to be somewhere. When you on the path you are in the place. You're in. There is no distinction between path and place itself. A path is compressed sand, earth, stone. The path goes through places, usually the most beautiful way so when you are on this way you can see beautiful things. Sometimes the path wonders about and you wonder about with it. The path can only be where it is and nowhere else it is dedicated. Path take you somewhere without removing you from the landscape. Everything along the path is part of the path." Roni Horn

Looking through some of my work from last year, so many projects "in progress". Most of my projects itself are about the idea of things being in progress anyway, in constant transitions, in process of disappearance or transition.

I took this last year in Poland near my house. From the sketchbook "Human body is trying to be part of environment by hiding and giving away the identity to take the identity of for example a tree branches... but never quite succeed. Body as a sculpture become element of the composition.

She emailed me later on and asked me to do an interview for the Laboratorium Reportażu, Instytutu Dziennikarstwa UW. We talked about my Sea Sculpture series from Dungeness and photography in general.
